Renewal of the accreditation as a health research institute by the ISCIII

The Health Research Institutes are entities dedicated to research, created through the association with the hospitals of the Spanish National Health System, universities, public research organizations and other public or private research centres, with the purpose of establishing multidisciplinary research programmes and policies, which contribute to promoting translational research.
In 2009, the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital Accredited Health Institute was initially accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII). It is now composed of the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), the Blood and Tissue Bank, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and the Institute of Diagnostic Imaging (IDI).
Vall d’Hebron University Hospital Accredited Health Institute’s mission is to generate, share and transfer new knowledge in the field of health, through the promotion and development of basic, clinical and translational research of excellence, aimed at improving the health and quality of life of citizens.
In 2024, it renewed this accreditation for the third time, which is a recognition of the excellence of the institution’s scientific results and management.
This year’s audit granted reaccreditation with a positive renewal report. The report mentions that Vall d’Hebron maintains a solid track record, strengthening its capabilities in attracting and retaining research talent, scientific performance, securing funding for research, and promoting joint actions within the framework of the accredited institute, reflecting the effect of consolidated governance and issuing a favourable report for reaccreditation as a health research institute.
