As a multidisciplinary team comprising molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians, we have contributed to the scientific community by developing bioinformatics tools and advancing the understanding of the complex relationship between diet and the gut microbiome. To this end, we successfully recruited 1,001 participants from all 17 Autonomous Regions of Spain and characterized the associations between gut microbiome composition and dietary profiles. Additionally, we initiated a collaboration with Danone (The Netherlands) to investigate the modulatory effects of probiotics on the gut immune system in patients with colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases. This project, which includes the collection of human intestinal explant tissues, has also fostered new collaborations with the Surgery Department at Vall d’Hebron Hospital.
