Basic research: we have continued in the characterization of new compounds able to block proteins involved in cancer resistance such as TSPAN1, SDCBP or SFN. Regarding TSPAN1, we have determined the role of drug D14-3 both in cells and mice in the inhibition of HNSCC model. Moreover, we have designed new drug variants (medicinal chemistry) with higher potency than the original drugs from in silico models that have been tested in vivo and in vitro. Clinical research: the ORL Service of Vall d'Hebron Hospital has been reorganised by subspecialties, with advanced clinical units. Robotic surgery has been developed, 3D planning in head and neck surgery. A programme of cochlear implants and lateral skull base in otology. Collaboration with neurosurgery in transnasal surgery and polyposis trials. In childrens an airway unit has been created and multidisciplinary committees have been set up, strengthening teaching, innovation and translational research.
