30 years of VHIR

2024 has been a special year for the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). We have celebrated three decades dedicated to health research, driving medical advances and improving people’s lives. To celebrate the occasion, we have organised a series of events reflecting our commitment to science and society. You can learn more about our journey on the special 30th anniversary website.

The celebration began with the 1st Vall d’Hebron Race, which brought together more than 500 participants, including professionals and local residents. The race followed a route around the Vall d’Hebron Campus and became a day of community and solidarity in support of research. A successful turnout marked the beginning of a year filled with commemorative activities.

In October, we hosted a special edition of the Scientific Conference, reflecting on how research has evolved over the past 30 years. The event brought together leading figures who have contributed to the institution’s growth from its early days to the present. A series of presentations highlighted the main achievements and challenges that have shaped the centre’s journey. You can find all the details in the news article on the VHIR website.

We have also sought to make research more accessible to everyone through the talk series Xerrades 30 anys VHIR [30 Years of VHIR Talks], which explored topics such as patient involvement in research, the impact of research on society and patient wellbeing, and the importance of solidarity in science. If you could not attend, you can catch up on them now!

Finally, in December, we experienced a historic moment with the inauguration of VHIR’s new building, a space of nearly 17,000 m² dedicated to research, innovation and teaching. The event was attended by the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa; the Minister for Research and Universities, Núria Montserrat; and the Minister of Health, Olga Pané, among other authorities.

This has undoubtedly been a year to remember, a time to look back and celebrate the achievements we have made while also looking ahead to new projects and challenges. We remain committed to driving forward research and innovation!
